Hello! May we introduce Immanuel Schneider and Jakob Heider , the two founders of Roof Space.

The two childhood friends have known each other since their school days and have traveled extensively together. Their shared passion for travel inspired them to develop a rooftop tent that would meet and exceed their own expectations, leaving no room for compromise.

Manu brings his engineering knowledge to the table, as well as a passion for tinkering and perfecting. Jakob, on the other hand, contributes his business expertise and motivation to structure and organize a company.

And so it all began in 2020, in the classic way, in the garage at home in northern Germany. There was only the vision of the perfect roof tent, but not yet the solution. "Learning by doing" and "trial and error" were Manu and Jakob's constant companions. This went through several stages, each attempt bringing new features. For the fourth prototype, it was the gas pressure springs, and for the sixth, the idea of ​​giving the folding roof tent a hard aluminum shell. The foundation for the new fusion experience of space, stability, and simplified travel was laid. Prototype 8 then introduced another innovation: Panorama mode. This transformed the tent into a roof terrace and demonstrated that a roof tent doesn't have to be just about sleeping.

Was in einer Garage begann, bekam im April 2021 nun ein offizielles Zuhause: Die Roof Space Gmbh wurde offiziell gegründet und der mutige Schritt in die Selbstständigkeit mit dem Eintrag ins Handelsregister besiegelt. Aus der Tüftelei zweier Freunde wurde ein echtes Unternehmen mit der Mission, die Welt des Campings nachhaltig zu verändern. Es war der Moment, in dem aus einer Vision eine feste Struktur wurde – der Startschuss für eine Reise, die weit über die Grenzen der heimischen Werkstatt hinausgehen sollte.

In 2022, the time had finally come. The team completed Roof Space ONE as a development platform. Now it was time to go public, and the crowdfunding campaign was the springboard that exceeded their own expectations. Not only from a financial perspective, but also from the perspective of the developers, who could now share their passion and vision of freedom and adventure in their own community. The press also took notice, and the name Roof Space began to spread around the world.

While the focus shifted to producing and delivering the tents, work simultaneously began on further optimizing the tent. The first 100 customers provided valuable, realistic feedback, which helped shape the ROOF SPACE 2 into the rooftop tent of the future. As a result, features such as quiet zippers, a connection for a parking heater, and aluminum pole covers were incorporated. Ultimately, it's the details that make all the difference when everything else is already perfect.

Ein perfektes Zelt ist erst der Anfang – das Ziel war die Erschaffung eines kompletten Outdoor-Ökosystems. Rund um das Roof Space 2 wuchs 2023 eine Produktwelt heran, die das Reisen noch komfortabler und flexibler macht. Mit der Entwicklung der Light Awning, der Light Base und der Family Base entstanden modulare Erweiterungen, die den Wohnraum unter dem Sternenhimmel individuell vergrößern. So wurde aus einem einzelnen Produkt eine ganzheitliche Lösung für Individualreisende und Familien gleichermaßen.

Die Vision von Roof Space kannte von Anfang an keine Grenzen, und so breitete sich die Begeisterung für das Fusions-Erlebnis global aus. Mit der Gründung von Schwesterfirmen in den USA und in Australien wurde Roof Space zu einer internationalen Marke. Von den Küsten Kaliforniens bis zum Outback Australiens teilen nun Abenteurer weltweit die Leidenschaft für Freiheit und Innovation „German Engineering“. Roof Space ist endgültig auf der Weltkarte des Campings angekommen.

Stillstand ist für Roof Space keine Option, und so folgte der nächste Paukenschlag: Die Entwicklung des Roof Space 4. Als das weltweit größte Hartschalendachzelt setzte es völlig neue Maßstäbe in Sachen Raumangebot und Komfort. Es ist die Antwort auf den Wunsch nach grenzenloser Freiheit ohne Kompromisse und beweist eindrucksvoll, dass Größe und Stabilität in perfekter Harmonie auf dem Fahrzeugdach thronen können.

Dass Leidenschaft und Detailverliebt-heit Früchte tragen, bestätigten in den letzten Jahren auch offizielle Jurys. Im Jahr 2024 wurde das Roof Space 2 mit dem renommierten German Design Award ausgezeichnet, eine Anerkennung für die perfekte Symbiose aus Ästhetik und Funktionalität. Doch damit nicht genug: Das Jahr 2025 markierte einen weiteren Meilenstein, als das wegweisende Roof Space 4 den German Innovation Award abräumte. Auch auf unternehmerischer Ebene wurde die Reise gewürdigt: Die Auszeichnung mit dem IHK-Gründungspreis 2025 unterstreicht eindrucksvoll, dass Roof Space nicht nur technologisch, sondern auch als mutiges, norddeutsches Erfolgsunternehmen zur Spitze gehört.
